2009 Year in Review

What a year 2009 was at Holy Wisdom Monastery! In November, the Sisters dedicated and celebrated the completion of the new “green” monastery with more than 500 friends and family in attendance. Also, the first of two $100,000 challenge gifts to the Restore the Land, Renew Your Spirit building campaign was met.

The Benedictine Life Foundation was blessed with an outpouring of generous support by hundreds of donors and volunteers in 2009. More than 400 volunteers provided more than 4000 hours of time and talent. We are deeply grateful to all who give of their work, wealth and wisdom throughout the year.

Outright charitable support and other revenue for the year totaled $558,591, including $338,936 to the capital campaign. Net assets increased to $1,194,516 which included an increase in pledges totaling $466,516. Operating expenses for the year were well controlled and the foundation paid out $180,639 in grants to further the work of the Benedictine Women of Madison, a 50% increase over last year.
