Sisters receive environmental awards The beauty, color and wondrous diversity of life on the Holy Wisdom Monastery grounds reflect a centuries-old Benedictine tradition of caring for creation. Benedictine Women of Madison recently received two awards in recognition of their environmental restoration work. |
The Creation Care Award honors “the most outstanding achievements in engaging religious communities in celebrating, protecting and restoring creation.” The National Religious Partnership for the Environment sponsored this national award. The Dane County Waters Champion Award recognizes Benedictine Women of Madison for “demonstrating a commitment to protecting and improving water quality in Dane county through the efforts of its members, through outreach and public awareness programs and through hands-on projects.” The Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission sponsored this award. Prioress Mary David Walgenbach, OSB, reflected that, “Stewardship includes extending hospitality to creation and the land itself so that all who come here receive the blessings of the earth.” |
