Community Workday

THANK YOU for volunteering at Community Workday! Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009
See more photos below

We had another wonderful, perfect-weather, Community Workday on Saturday, September 19. There were over 110 volunteers and staff members helping throughout the three hour work time. Many people also took the prairie pollinator or monastery tours and learned a little more about the prairie and the sustainable building.

Your hard work resulted in a very productive day! Here's what was accomplished:

  • Stained 7 prairie benches in the north prairie
  • Picked apples in the hilltop orchard
  • Cleaned up the monastery garden
  • Collected prairie seed from the Mendota prairie
  • Seeded and collected seed from the green roofs
  • Removed red clover and white ladino clover around the monastery
  • Lopped grape vines along hiking trails
  • Planted 4 white pine trees around the monastery entrance
  • Deep-cleaned the Assembly Room floor
  • Installed sod around the monastery entrance
  • Planted two rain gardens
  • Seeded and laid down erosion control mats on the front slope
  • Washed dishes and cleaned up after lunch
  • Assembled packets of materials for the November dedication events
  • Created paths on the parking islands and swept the parking lot.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Bill Knoedler for his sponsorship of this workday. If you are interested in donating to the workdays, please contact, Jan at 608-836-1631, ext. 123 or jlottig@benedictinewomen.org.
