In today's times, it can be difficult to see where and how the sacred can play an important role in public policy. Often it seems that public policy alternates between liberal and conservative extremes, both of which tend to increase political fragmentation. Can the Spirit help us find a way to hear one another—to listen with the ear of our hearts—as we converse on these important matters?
Join the conversation with Dr. Norvene Vest, who brings practical experience as a policymaker for the past 30 years and as a lay member of a Benedictine monastery. Throughout the weekend, participants will explore dimensions of the connection between the Christian spiritual life and public policy. Dr. Vest will reflect on political virtues in the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict that help us sustain a policy capable of asking itself questions about purpose and integrity. She will also share practical insights on how to think creatively and act effectively to create space for the sacred in our common life.
You are invited to attend for the full weekend or for a selected portion of the program as your schedule allows!
Sessions include:
- Political theology — Friday
- Religion & politics in Western History — Saturday morning
- Ways to look at America’s spiritual crisis — Saturday morning
